83502-39A Set of large Gasoline tanks......... WR and WLDR
Approximately 5 1/2 gallons. Used with aluminium Oil Tank only.

The info above comes from the January 1941 "Dealer's Net price list of special parts available for competition motorcycles".
These tanks were offered as an option on WR models for long races such as Daytona. Similar type of large tanks existed prior to this type for 1937 to 1938 WLDR models [click here for a gallery of those]. The older models held 6 gallons while the type seen on this page contains approx 5,5 gal. Also, the earlier type had oil fittings and could be used as a gas/oil tanks set, while the 1939 type seen here was set up for gas/gas only, and had to be used with the "under seat" aluminium oil tank.


In 1949 this type of large tank set was offered again with a new refence. The 1949 & later tanks were rubber mounted and had flat insides rather than the "kidney" setup. We're looking for some pics of a set of those.
